Makiki District park

The Makiki District Park is our original location, with three distinct classes for different age groups:

• 4-5 year old class, running Saturdays from 9:30am-10:30am

• 6-12 year old class, running Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-7pm

• 13 and up class, running Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7-8:30pm

We’re located on the second floor of the building you see in the picture here, and this is a large location with lots of mats for the practice of safe falling.

Our 4-5 year old class is mostly about building a physical foundation and learning the basics of how a karate class runs, with lots of repetition, games, and exercises designed to engage young students in learning karate. While we sometimes do partner drills in this class, we don’t do any sparring, nor do students test for rank in this class. Sparring and eligibility for testing for next ranks happens in our 6-12 year old class as well as our 13 and up class.

Because these classes are provided in partnership with the Parks and Recreation department, enrollment is divided into three different seasons and is offered through the Parks and Recreation website. These enrollment periods are short and tend to fill up quickly. Our 6-12 year old class regularly fills up within just a few minutes of the enrollment period being open.
