Ryan Layman

Ryan Layman, Senpai, is the owner and operator of Aranami Dojo. With martial arts experience of over 20 years, Ryan began Kyokushin karate in Kanazawa, Japan in 2010 with Kanya Moritomo.

After moving back to the United States in 2011, Ryan began training with Tom and Toni Flynn of Green Mountain Dojo in Vermont. He trained with them and was promoted all the way to 2-kyu before moving to Honolulu, Hawaii in 2021. During that time, he competed in a number of full-contact tournaments, including the So-Kyokushin World Tournament in 2016 as a lightweight competitor.

In Honolulu, Ryan joined the Mochida Dojo in Honolulu under Yuri Taniguchi as an assistant instructor.

In addition to teaching karate, Ryan also is trilingual, speaking Japanese since 2003 and Korean since 2014.
