Taikyoku Sono Ni

Taikyoku Sono Ni is the second Kyokushin kata that students at Aranami Dojo learn, and is required for a test for 10th kyu and subsequent levels. Almost exactly like the first Taikyoku kata, it is a 20-step kata that begins and ends in fudo-dachi, and all steps are in zenkutsu-dachi. A kiai is required on the 8th and 16th moves. The only difference between this and the first Taikyoku are that punches are jodan-tsuki, and not chudan-tsuki

Steps:

  1. From fudo-dachi, step left into zenkutsu-dachi, executing a gedan-barai with left hand.

  2. Step forward into zenkutsu-dachi and execute seiken jodan-tsuki with right hand.

  3. Moving with right foot and turning towards your right, step 180 degrees into zenkutsu-dachi with right leg forward, executing a gedan-barai with right hand.

  4. Step forward into zenkutsu-dachi and execute execute seiken jodan-tsuki with left hand.

  5. With left foot, step left 90 degrees into zenkutsu-dachi, executing a gedan-barai with left hand.

  6. Step forward into zenkutsu-dachi and execute seiken jodan-tsuki with right hand.

  7. Step forward into zenkutsu-dachi and execute execute seiken jodan-tsuki with left hand.

  8. Step forward into zenkutsu-dachi and execute seiken jodan-tsuki with right hand with kiai.

  9. Moving with left foot and turning towards your left, turn 90 degrees into zenkutsu-dachi, executing a gedan-barai with left hand.

  10. Step forward into zenkutsu-dachi and execute seiken jodan-tsuki with right hand.

  11. Moving with right foot and turning towards your right, step into zenkutsu-dachi with right leg forward, executing a gedan-barai with right hand.

  12. Step forward and execute seiken jodan-tsuki with left hand.

  13. With left foot, step left 90 degrees into zenkutsu-dachi, executing a gedan-barai with left hand.

  14. Step forward into zenkutsu-dachi and execute seiken jodan-tsuki with right hand.

  15. Step forward into zenkutsu-dachi and execute execute seiken jodan-tsuki with left hand.

  16. Step forward into zenkutsu-dachi and execute seiken jodan-tsuki with right hand with kiai.

  17. Moving with left foot and turning towards your left, turn 90 degrees into zenkutsu-dachi, executing a gedan-barai with left hand.

  18. Step forward into zenkutsu-dachi and execute seiken jodan-tsuki with right hand.

  19. Moving with right foot and turning towards your right, step 180 degrees into zenkutsu-dachi with right leg forward, executing a gedan-barai with right hand.

  20. Step forward into zenkutsu-dachi and execute execute seiken jodan-tsuki with left hand.

Remain in the final position until the instructor says, “Naore,” then return to yoi-dachi and remain until the instructor says “Yasume.”
