Taikyoku Sono Ichi
Taikyoku Sono Ichi is the first Kyokushin kata that students at Aranami Dojo learn, and is required for a test for 10th kyu and subsequent levels. It is a 20-step kata that begins and ends in fudo-dachi, and all steps are in zenkutsu-dachi. A kiai is required on the 8th and 16th moves.
Steps:
From fudo-dachi, step left into zenkutsu-dachi, executing a gedan-barai with left hand.
Step forward into zenkutsu-dachi and execute seiken chudan-tsuki with right hand.
Moving with right foot and turning towards your right, step 180 degrees into zenkutsu-dachi with right leg forward, executing a gedan-barai with right hand.
Step forward into zenkutsu-dachi and execute execute seiken chudan-tsuki with left hand.
With left foot, step left 90 degrees into zenkutsu-dachi, executing a gedan-barai with left hand.
Step forward into zenkutsu-dachi and execute seiken chudan-tsuki with right hand.
Step forward into zenkutsu-dachi and execute execute seiken chudan-tsuki with left hand.
Step forward into zenkutsu-dachi and execute seiken chudan-tsuki with right hand with kiai.
Moving with left foot and turning towards your left, turn 90 degrees into zenkutsu-dachi, executing a gedan-barai with left hand.
Step forward into zenkutsu-dachi and execute seiken chudan-tsuki with right hand.
Moving with right foot and turning towards your right, step into zenkutsu-dachi with right leg forward, executing a gedan-barai with right hand.
Step forward and execute seiken chudan-tsuki with left hand.
With left foot, step left 90 degrees into zenkutsu-dachi, executing a gedan-barai with left hand.
Step forward into zenkutsu-dachi and execute seiken chudan-tsuki with right hand.
Step forward into zenkutsu-dachi and execute execute seiken chudan-tsuki with left hand.
Step forward into zenkutsu-dachi and execute seiken chudan-tsuki with right hand with kiai.
Moving with left foot and turning towards your left, turn 90 degrees into zenkutsu-dachi, executing a gedan-barai with left hand.
Step forward into zenkutsu-dachi and execute seiken chudan-tsuki with right hand.
Moving with right foot and turning towards your right, step 180 degrees into zenkutsu-dachi with right leg forward, executing a gedan-barai with right hand.
Step forward into zenkutsu-dachi and execute execute seiken chudan-tsuki with left hand.
Remain in the final position until the instructor says, “Naore,” then return to yoi-dachi and remain until the instructor says “Yasume.”
